Lewis Carroll's universally known story of a little girl who falls down a rabbit hole into a magical Wonderland is given a new spin in this lushly illustrated version of the classic tale. Alice was sitting in a field reading when a white rabbit scampered by. She didn't know what was odder: that the rabbit was running on its hind legs, wearing a jacket, and carrying a pocket watch, or that it was talking, shouting, "I'm late! I'm late!" From the moment she decided to follow the rabbit into his rabbit hole, Alice was transported to a fantastical place called Wonderland, where anything was possible. All of the familiar characters are here: the Hatter, the March Hare, the Cheshire Cat, the Caterpillar, and the wicked Queen of Hearts. Children ages 4 – 8 will very much enjoy reading along and looking at the beautifully drawn imagery in this latest release in the Pop Wonderland series.

This new series of books (The Pop Wonderland Series) is a great idea that takes classic stories and tales, and adds manga imagery to tell them. Each one is a full color “children’s book” that is sure to please any child, and may even appeal to some of the older crowd because of the amazing art. Alice in Wonderland is a classic story, and one enjoyed by many different age groups. It’s been remade in a plethora of different media, including live-action film, animation, and in storybooks like this one. This version of Alice’s adventures is a great way to introduce the story to children especially, because it has soft imagery, and is in no way frightening (unlike some other versions that can have some pretty scary moments). Children will be captivated by the imagery – the art is just amazing. I’d say the art in this book is more enjoyable than that of the similar Thumbelina book in the series – Alice in Wonderland is such an “odd” story that it allows for some pretty interesting visuals and art.

Something else of note is the collectability of these books. There’s something oddly “collectable” about this series – anyone who collects books or children’s books specifically will likely fall head over heels for this sort of thing. It is very obvious that a lot of care, time, and attention went into making this product a beautiful physical product. It’s not just one of those “bind it together and get it printed” books – it’s a real piece of art in relation to everything from its construction, to the story and visuals presented inside. This is a really nice product – it deserves all the attention it gets and will hopefully find a place on many people’s shelves.

It’s important to note that if you liked this Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland book, there are quite a few other stories coming out in the same series. So far there is Little Red Riding Hood, and Thumbelina as well. All are done by the same artist, and fit together as a “series” (separate in story, but same in format, shape, and look). I hope this series of books does well – it’s nice to see some really talented manga imagery used to tell some classic stories for a new generation of readers.

IN SUMMARY:
Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland of The Pop Wonderland Series is a wonderful children’s book with beautiful art and imagination. The art alone is a great reason to purchase this book series, and this particular book is probably the best. There are so many great things about this book due to the high attention to detail in the physical product, and within the book itself – well done!
